Hong Kong web development companies: a shortlist by project type
Published by Lyfar Studio, which offers services covered in this guide.
Last reviewed: .
A website with a custom pricing engine and a website with six service pages need different proposals. You can hire the same developer for both, but you should ask for different evidence.
- Start with the task your customer needs to complete, then shortlist the companies that show relevant work.
- Compare the editing and maintenance arrangements alongside the design.
- Ask each company to demonstrate the part of your project most likely to fail.
I used documented Lyfar projects and the other providers’ official service pages for this comparison. The fit column is my assessment of that evidence.

| Company | Documented work or published services | A reason to include it in your shortlist | Ask before commissioning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lyfar Studio | Custom websites, e-commerce and internal tools; the EggShell project includes a sticker-pricing engine and artwork uploads. Technology, EggShell case study | You want to work with the builder on a website that includes unusual product or workflow requirements. | Who will maintain the custom features, and what does the handover include? |
| Grayscale | The Hong Kong agency lists web design and development, UX research, branding and accessibility as part of its approach. Grayscale | Your brief needs design research or accessibility work alongside development. | Which user journeys and accessibility checks will the team include? |
| Wecreate | The agency lists branding, UX, web and e-commerce development. Its WordPress service includes custom development and editor training. Agency services, WordPress service | You want to compare a combined branding and website brief, or you already want WordPress. | Which elements are custom, which depend on plugins, and who owns the licences? |
The work I would show you
For a shop with unusual product options, I would start with EggShell . Customers choose sticker shape, size and quantity, upload artwork and see a calculated price. I built the storefront, pricing module and file-storage integration. Those are concrete behaviours you can use to judge whether the example resembles your problem.
For a directory or a site with repeated content structures, I would show the Swarm directory network . That’s a studio project. The relevant work is the shared codebase and content pipeline, rather than the number of pages in a screenshot.
The CWB website is a separate example of my web work, built in-house through my employment rather than as a Lyfar Studio client commission.
I would also tell you when your brief doesn’t need custom software. A small brochure site with straightforward editing requirements can suit an existing platform. Paying me to invent a replacement for its ordinary features would be poor use of your budget.
Put Hong Kong requirements into the brief
“Bilingual website” leaves too much undecided. Specify English and Traditional Chinese if those are your audiences, then name the person who approves each version. Include page titles, form errors, confirmation emails and downloadable documents in that decision. Ask the developer to show an editor changing one language without damaging the other.
For enquiries, test the route from the phone in your customer’s hand to the person answering. A submitted form should reach the right inbox, retain the useful context and show the visitor a clear confirmation. If WhatsApp is your preferred contact channel, include the handover in the demonstration.
For commerce, provide a sample order with the awkward details: a custom option, a failed payment or a delivery exception. Your provider should explain which system owns each part. A shop window can look excellent while the stockroom remains a mess.
Compare the same deliverable
Send the same short brief to the companies you shortlist. List the pages, editing roles, integrations and acceptance checks. Ask each provider to separate the initial build from hosting, licences and ongoing support. A total without those boundaries makes comparisons harder.
Before signing, ask who controls the domain, CMS account, analytics and code repository where applicable. Ask for a sample handover. You want enough access and documentation for another competent person to maintain the site if your circumstances change.
For an earlier platform decision, read the custom website, WordPress and site-builder comparison . If your brief needs native phone features, use the Hong Kong app-development shortlist alongside this one.
You can use the shortlist above to start those conversations. If your brief includes custom pricing, a directory, an internal workflow or a website that needs technical and creative work together, send Lyfar the customer journey you want to build . Include one example of the thing your current site cannot do.
