Shopify vs SHOPLINE in Hong Kong: test the way your shop runs

Published by Lyfar Studio, which offers services covered in this guide.

Shopify Payments works for online selling in Hong Kong, but its Hong Kong service does not process in-person POS payments. Shopify says those require an external terminal and a third-party processor. That detail can matter more to a shop owner than the theme gallery. Shopify’s Hong Kong payment documentation .

Choose between Shopify and SHOPLINE by checking how a real order gets paid for and delivered. Then check the work your staff must do after the sale. Treat custom design as a separate requirement: an unusual product display doesn’t automatically require a new commerce platform.

Start with the Hong Kong requirements

The table compares published regional capabilities. Availability still depends on the selected plan and merchant approval, so put the exact setup in your quote.

Don’t treat similar wallet names as proof of the same customer experience. Shopify’s page says Alipay; SHOPLINE’s HKD page names AlipayHK. If your customers depend on a particular wallet, ask the provider to demonstrate that exact wallet, including a refund.

SHOPLINE’s guide also distinguishes its PayMe for Business integration from PayMe through SHOPLINE Payments, which is marked as coming soon. A payment logo on a sales page is not enough to establish your configuration. SHOPLINE’s payment guide .

Follow an order through the shop

Make a test basket using something you sell. Include a product with options and an item that is nearly out of stock. Try the basket on a phone using the language your customers normally choose.

Then follow it beyond checkout. Which screen does the person packing the order open? Who prints the label? Can a customer collect it at the branch where stock is available? What happens when one item is returned?

Shopify supports configured shipping rates, including flat and carrier-calculated options. Setting the amount charged at checkout is a different task from booking a local courier. Check both in the proposed implementation. Shopify shipping rates .

SHOPLINE’s Hong Kong features page lists OneShip connections including SF Express and Hongkong Post. Ask which carrier service your plan covers, what account is needed and where tracking appears for the buyer. SHOPLINE logistics features .

For a business with a physical shop, have the counter staff try a return. Ask how the order record matches the terminal transaction and which system decides the remaining stock. That demonstration gives you a better basis for a decision than a promise of connected retail.

Keep storefront design separate from checkout

In Lyfar’s Fidget Book Shopify prototype , customers select candy from an animated display and open its normal product page. The owner manages scene artwork through a product field. The interaction sits inside the theme as an app block.

It is an independent development-store prototype, with the existing product and checkout flow retained. Its useful lesson is the size of the change: the unusual part of the experience can have its own scope.

Shopify supports those theme extensions, while SHOPLINE publishes a separate customization route through its page builder and Layout Engine. Ask the developer to show what your selected theme and plan allow before approving a visual concept. Shopify extensions , SHOPLINE design options .

Checkout has separate limits. Shopify’s documentation reserves apps that customize the information, shipping and payment pages for Shopify Plus. A custom storefront design does not remove that restriction. Shopify checkout customization .

If the requirement is a new interaction within Shopify, I can help scope and build it . For a wider migration, the Hong Kong Shopify agency comparison identifies other relevant project evidence.

Compare the cost of running your proposed setup

Request a quote for the complete configuration. Include the platform subscription and payment processing, then price any apps, hardware and custom development separately. Ask who supports each connection when it stops working.

Have the person who will maintain the shop add a product during the demonstration. Ask them to change its images and delivery settings. Note every step that requires the developer. Repeat this with both proposed setups before choosing.

SHOPLINE deserves a close look when its documented Hong Kong payment and fulfilment options match your daily operations. Shopify deserves a close look when your required integrations or custom interaction fit its supported extension model. Keep an existing platform if it already handles the difficult requirements and the proposed change can be contained.
