EggShell: the product page had to calculate the price

A custom sticker doesn’t have one price. Change its shape, size or quantity and the order changes with it. For EggShell, the storefront had to calculate that price while keeping the customer’s artwork attached to the purchase.

That was the useful part of the brief. A shop where you could actually configure the thing you wanted to buy.

Start with the order

For the 2025 build, we used Medusa.js 2.x with a custom sticker-pricing module. The module handled the shape-aware calculation. The customer chose the dimensions and quantity, uploaded their artwork and saw the price update in the storefront.

Artwork went into MinIO storage. Stripe handled checkout. The backend and storefront were deployed on Railway.

Those are separate pieces, but the customer experiences one sequence: describe the sticker, supply the file, see the price, pay. A clever pricing formula doesn’t help if the person at the other end still has to email their artwork separately.

The work covered the storefront, backend, pricing engine, file storage and deployment over four weeks. The result was a working ordering flow with live price updates as the customer changed the configuration.

Put the unusual rule in one place

The interesting decision was where the custom work belonged. EggShell’s unusual requirement was the pricing logic. We built that as a module inside the commerce system, alongside the familiar machinery for products and orders.

That gives you a clear boundary to inspect. When the price is wrong, you can look at the inputs and the calculation. When an upload fails, you look at the artwork path. Everything doesn’t have to become one large custom application just because one part of the sale is unusual.

If you sell something customers configure, start your brief with a real order. Write down every choice that changes the price and every file you need to fulfil it. That sequence tells you far more than a gallery of storefront references.
